Repression of Dancers is a Feminist Issue!

Why do I never hear anyone say that the hate and stigma that exists for this dance form, and that dancers, just like other sexual minorities, being the most vulnerable group of people on the planet, all get their treatment from the exact misogyny from which also led to the overturning of reproductive rights in the States? The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt is just the same repackaged peace of fecal matter as we see in the fundamentalism of the Republican conservatives of America.

Repression of public entertainers in Egypt only hurts its people and the rich culture it originated from. Most dancers in this tradition are women or female -presenting and as women are protected under law so we should view these events through feminist lenses and that these are quite clearly feminist issues just as they would have been regarded had they occurred somewhere in Europe or North America.

The Egyptian police are arresting the belly dancers under the false pretext of “dancing without an underwear,”  they were then taken to a jail cell where they are faced with harshest conditions.

This business about chasing innocent women down the alleyways for dancing in a “provocative way”. All of this religious hysteria completely smacks of the same old patriarchal gobbledygook about female body requiring force of arms to impose their mythical makebelief about female sexuality being inherently sinful and homosexuality being abominable and that being trans is confusion, and all to one degree or another in need of repentance (I.e. in Earthly and demystified  language it simply means penance by getting your asses funnelled through criminal justice system. This literal witch hunt does not benefit anyone; they’re not arresting public dancers for any national best interests but rather to glut a group of virgin male religious fundamentalists who hate women and delight in abusing female sexuality for their personal gratification.

The police do not listen to abuse victims of domestic violence; women are not believed or taken seriously, or are even to be blamed. In the Middle East when a girl is caught dancing her parents spank that child in the buttocks as the mother points the stick at her thigh and asks, “ which side of the hip did you shake to him?”

Does this not warrant feminism in the same way it would have warranted had this occurred in North America? Feminism does not belong to any one culture - feminism is universal human liberation. Where deeds such as the above occur there is where feminism is needed the most.

Fuck patriarchy!
